Curriculum
Singing is the basic means of musical expression in all cultures. The music program at Trinity encourages the participation of each student. Learning proper use of the voice in singing and speaking from an early age is vital for effective communication. All Trinity Academy students learn and work to meet and exceed state standards as well as the Musician’s pledge, which stated that all students are well behaved and follow a standard of behavior and respect in regards to the classroom environment, instruments, and fellow musicians. All grades meet weekly for forty-five minute sessions.
Kindergarten, Grade 1 and Grade 2
Students explore various types of musical styles. They learn through listening, echoing, movement, pitch, simple instrument play, rhythm, and tonal exploration. All students are required to participate in the annual Christmas Musical and spring choral concert. Students in these early elementary grades have the option to sing as part of the Trinity Academy Choir.
Grades 3, 4 and 5
In the upper level grades, students explore advance tonal and rhythm exploration, improvisation, two-part singing, rounds, and music theory. They play simple instruments while singing and play along to various types of music. Correct posture, breathing, and vocalizing techniques are taught throughout the year. These students complete a year long comprehensive study of comprehension study of composers from various time periods on a historical time line. Fourth and fifth grade students have the opportunity to play band or orchestra instruments and also to participate in private piano lessons that are available during the school day. Cooperation with a local private school allows the band and orchestra students to play in an ensemble band and orchestra. Students are required to participate in the annual Christmas Musical and spring choral concert. |
